FAQs

What is your day rate?

Like many photographers, I don’t use day rates as a pricing model because not all photoshoots are created equal. A shoot with a higher production value will cost more than a simpler shoot that doesn’t require a lot of planning and post-production. Please send me an email with detailed information about your shoot such as number of photos needed, where the photos will be used, the number of days for shoot, and other relevant details. That will help me provide ballpark costs, or an early estimate. Once I understand your project I can give you a custom quote based on the scope of work and image licensing needed.

What is the difference between the photographer’s creative fee and licensing fee?

The Creative Fee is what I charge to create the work. This rate compensates me for my time, creativity, preparation, expertise, vision, and art direction. The licensing fee is what the client pays for various types of usage for the images. Think of it as music licensing, where you’d pay various fees to use songs in different scenarios (a commercial, a movie, a TV show, a conference, a radio show, etc.). My quote will include both my creative fee for producing the work, and my licensing fee for your use of the images.

How do I book you?

After we discuss the scope of work and agree on the cost, I will send you a contract with my terms and conditions, as well as a detailed description of the scope of work. To secure the booking I will ask for a counter-signed copy of the contract, as well as a deposit equal to 50% of the creative fee, plus shoot expenses. (For example, if the creative fee is $1000 and the shoot has $200 in expenses, the deposit will be $500 + $200 = $700). Expenses often include things like: plane tickets, hotel reservations, other travel expenses, gear rental, expendable purchases, permits, or crew day rates.)

What is your turnaround time for deliverables?

I always aim to have the final retouched images delivered to the client within two weeks of the shoot date. Sometimes this process may take longer if I have to wait on the client to send me their selects. For a rush fee, I can expedite image delivery to a 24-48 hour turnaround time.

What is your cancellation policy?

My full cancellation policy can be found in the terms of service on my contract. Generally, a certain percentage of the deposit will be non-refundable, calculated based on how close to the shoot day the project is cancelled.

What payment methods do you accept?

All payment methods are accepted, including Venmo, PayPal, checks, ACH, and credit card. Payment information is included on all invoices.

How are my images delivered?

When your images are ready, you will receive a link to a password-protected online gallery, hosted on my site, from which you can view and download your images. You can access this gallery for up to two years from shoot date, after which it will be taken down. You will receive an automated reminder before the removal date, in case you want to download the photos one more time.

How do I download my photos?

On your image gallery, locate the download icon (it looks like a downward arrow). This button allows you to download your entire gallery as a zip folder. You can specify whether you want to download web resolution files, high resolution files, or both. You can also download individual images by hovering your mouse over the image and clicking on the download icon. Of course, I will be available to answer any questions about your photographs.
